Just a Little Update

I have not posted in about a week! I'm not following my blogging schedule at all. Hopefully I'll get back on track soon. We spent the weekend in Gladwin with no internet. Brandons step mom took me shopping at Arnies. I keep telling her I'm going to make her a necklace like the one here but I kept forgetting to buy the beads, so she did. I also got some more buttons, and I found a great way to organize them that I can't wait to share. I love going to Gladwin because there's a lot of inspiration. I also got a really cute white tubetop that I took to Arnies to get a transfer of a family of frogs put on it. Saturday night I won some money playing bingo. Definitely a good first bingo experience. We had a bonfire, s'mores, pizza, and the next day we went fishing. I'm also getting things ready to start my new job at the casino. This is the longest employment process ever! I'm still not done. I also learned to crochet a granny square, so I'll be working on my first blanket (Yay!) I got so much more to do tomorrow, and we'll be getting our new house soon, so I'll be swamped with stuff again! I'll try to update as much as I can (I should have a new post up Wed. or Thurs.)

Keep Smiling. Stay Creative. Get Crafty.

Lariat Necklace

I was hopping around blogs yesterday and came across a post by Gwen at baD.I.N.K.adink about a lariat necklace. I had never heard of these before, so I did some research, and then I made one of my own. I made it a little differently than what I saw, but I really like it. I have a bracelet post coming up that matches it, and my next lariat necklace will show more ways to wear it.

 Hope you enjoyed!

DIY Ribbon Bookmarks

I love pinterest. And like so many others, I pin, pin, pin, but rarely actually do anything with the inspiration. My first project made from pinspiration was this Rainbow Button Bracelet, and since then, I've been making button bracelets like crazy! Todays post is another pinspiration post. Looking through my Ribbon Bookmark board on pinterest, I decided to finally make some. Here is what I came up with:

Liebster Award

So as some of you might know, I was recently nominated for the Liebster Award. Well, Laura from TheExperimentalHome, nominated my blog for this award, and I'm so excited about it!
So first and foremost I want to say thanks to Laura! You should check out her blog, it's got awesome content and I love her design!

So when I first heard about the Liebster Award, I did a little bit of research. Like many others, I could not find the EXACT origins, but I did learn that Liebster is German for 'Sweetheart' or 'Dearest'. While it still is basically an award, it's also like a blog post chain letter. The rules and guidelines have also changed a lot, but I'm not going to get into that because I think they are perfect the way they are now. Speaking of rules and guidelines, I need to share those with you before we continue.

Liebster Blog Award Rules:

Once you have been nominated for this award, you should probably do the following:
- Thank your nominator! Link back to their blog and send a virtual hug their way!
- Answer the 11 questions your nominator has asked.
- List 11 facts about yourself.
- Nominate 5-11 bloggers with less than 200 followers who you think deserve to be noticed, and make sure you let them know you nominated them so they can pass the Liebe.
- Ask your nominees 11 questions to answer.

Laura asked me:

1) What is your favorite thing about your blog? I love the design I have going on. The color, dots, and fonts. I also love my featured content slider, even though I need to update it more often.
2) What aspects of blogging to you hope to improve on? Picture quality was a main one. Lately I've worked on that and improved it a lot. But I hope to grow my tutorial writing skills, and add more crafts and DIY Projects.
3) Where is your ‘happy place’? I have a lot of happy places. I'm generally a happy person. I love my craft room, especially with the windows open, rain or shine.
4) What song is in your head right now? Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson
5) What is your favorite article of clothing? My dresses!
6) What color best describes you? Yellow. Optimistic and cheerful.
7) Is that color your favorite color? Rainbows and Glitter!
8) Where do you keep your toothbrush? In a thing that's attached to the mirror in the bathroom.
9) What would you do with a free hour? Get things done so I have another free hour later ^_^
10) What did you want to be when you grew up? Since I'm not grown yet, I plan to be an art teacher when I grow up.
11) Do you have a guilty pleasure? Chips and Salsa, Reeses CrispyCrunchy Bar, and Willy Wonka candy.

That was fun! Now the hard part:

11 totally random fun facts about me:

1) I have 15, 467 songs on my iPod Classic. I know most of them word, for word. at least 2,000 are songs from the classical era.
2) I spent $400 on a Yamaha Keyboard that I hardly ever play. But I'm still in love with it, and even after 6 years, I have not found a keyboard that suits me better.
3) I love video games, I'm very good at killing zombies, catching Pokemon, driving fast cars, and going to war.
4) Every week I get together with 5 other people to continue our quest in Dungeons & Dragons.
5) So far this year, I've learned how to crochet, drive a stick shift, and that the feeling you get from being tickled is a form of panic. I hate being tickled.
6) I recently started to dislike the taste of eggs. I can only eat them mixed with sausage and syrup.
7) I love that my boyfriend can support my craft addiction, but wants no part in it.
8) I don't have a favorite color, but I do have colors that I prefer seeing objects in. For example, I like all my electronics to be black, all my lipgloss to be pink, and my jewelry to be silver.
9) It's not a paranoia, but I constanlty wonder if things I touch have had cyanide spilled on them and if it's soaking into my skin.
10) I'm addicted to garage sales, thrift stores, and import stores.
11) I love Grapefruit.

And my nominees are:

This was actually really, really hard.
Jill@JillMadeIt
Jenny@MagicCatJenny
McCall@WatchaMcCallIt

And my questions for them are:

1) When and why did you start blogging?
2) What are your longterm goals?
3) When you aren't blogging, what are you doing?
4) What's your favorite memory?
5) What was the last thing you learned to do?
6) What is your greatest accomplishment?
7) What traits/characteristics did you inherit from your parents?
8) What motivates/inspires you?
9) What is something you've always wanted to do?
10) What's stopping you?
11) How do you feel right now?

Well, that's it! I want to say thanks again to Laura for nominating me, and I can't wait to see what my nominees post!

DIY Vintage Button Bracelet

I know, I know. Another button bracelet? I'm sorry, but I have hundreds of buttons, and I'm always buying more! My last button bracelet, the Navy Blue & White Button Bracelet, seemed to be a big hit. A lot of people liked it. Todays bracelet is a vintage style (Well, it looks sort of vintage to me) light pink and white button bracelet with a few antique-looking  metal buttons thrown in.

All you need for this sweet baby is some chain, buttons, jump rings, pliers, and an hour of your precious time. I use my jump ring opener every chance I get. It makes life so much easier.
I added my first button at one end of the chain.
And on the other end:
I made a loop with chain. I've never done this before, but I kind of like it. You can easily change this to any sort of connecting findings that you want.
Ta-da! Then I counted the links in the chain so I could make a pattern.
This is how I started my pattern. I only had 6 of the round metal buttons, and I wanted them spaced evenly.
After an hour, I finally finished.
What do you guys think? I'm so excited that my pictures are looking better. I've learned that taking them outside in natural light does wonders. I also got a new iPhone. That helps, too!
On a side note:
We went up to Gladwin again last weekend. I can easily see it becoming a trip we make a couple times a month. When we left we stopped at this little gas station called Hunters Paradise. I found this gorgeous handmade necklace and had to have it. It was made by a lady called Dot, in some town I forgot the name of.
Isn't it wonderful!?
She had a lot more being sold there, but this was the most colorful one!
On another side note:
Laura, from TheExperimentalHome nominated this little'o'blog for the Liebster Award! I'm so excited! I have to prepare a post where I explain what it is, what the rules are, answer some questions, ask some questions, and nominate other blogs! So swing by Lauras blog, check her out, and make sure to come back in a couple days to see more about the Liebster Award!
